Three Cozy Habits for Autumn

Three Cozy Habits for Autumn

Hope your autumn days are progressing nicely! The leaves are starting to change, and I wanted to share three habits for this season that make for a cozy, healthy journey.

CANDLES

I love the element of fire during the autumn season and candle-gazing is a favorite form of meditation for me. I’ve steered away, however, from scented candles, even the ones indicated as natural, because they are not clean enough in my opinion.  A remedy for this has been to use a flameless candle and separately infuse essential oils from a good quality diffuser. Of course, if you enjoy flame candles, beeswax ones are a great option.

This 3"x4" LED while pillar flameless candle is a steal at $3, or, for flame candles, I love this 100% beeswax candle from a small family-owned company called Beelite.

CINAMMON

Cinnamon, as a hot food, represents the solar element, and thus feels appropriate to be sought after in autumn as the sun’s strength starts to wane. As someone who’s a bit of a self-professed “nose,” or someone who can tell by smelling a fragrance, what ingredients are contained within, I noticed that Cinnamomum cassia smells a bit different across brands. For example, I tend to prefer Nature’s Alchemy cinnamon (sweeter) over NOW cinnamon (stronger) smelling.

As far as a diffuser, I have this one from Young Living, which is a bit pricey, but of good quality. Note that purchasing this requires that you become a member (I don’t make any income if you go ahead and do so).

COCONUT MILK WITH CARDAMON

Coconut milk is the most tolerable plant-based milk I’ve tried, as compared to almond, cashew, oat, cashew, or soy milk, and with some cardamon, makes for a creamy, tasty, hot beverage before bedtime (maybe not too close to bedtime so you’re not peeing during the night). In Ayurveda, cardamom is known for its relaxing properties, soothing the digestive system to prevent bloating, which can disrupt rest, and even has some melatonin.

Another twist for a morning drink is hot coconut milk with your favorite mushroom powder mix, which can boost your immune system during the day. Try this by Host Defense.

Happy cozy-ing!
