Three Healthy "Processed" Foods
I try to eat food that is fresh - that doesn’t come in a package or a box - and alive, such as slightly steamed veggies - but I also realize that this is not easy to do. So I went on a search to find products, that over time, I became comfortable including in my diet, even though there were “processed” to some extent. Here are three of them.
The Cadia line of soups.
I like these because the ingredients are few, they are organic, and based in coconut cream (including water) as opposed to dairy to give it a creamy texture. My favorites are mushroom and carrot. They also have a lentil version.
Trader’s Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi.
I’m embarrassed to admit that, until now, Trader Joe’s was a place I’d visit mostly for the awesome ambiance and some snacks, cards, and flowers, versus meal-quality food. I was wrong in not giving its selections a closer look, and one of them is the cauliflower gnocchi, which, amazingly - has only one ingredient - cauliflower. Its also incredibly inexpensive for around $3.
A lover of gnocchi, I was very happy to find a healthier, less-starchy alternative. With my favorite pesto (when not harvesting basil from my garden) is so delicious.
Zero Carbs Pasta.
I’ve tried them all - gluten-free pasta from rice, quinoa, beans, etc. but none of them really tasted that great. I decided to give up on pasta entirely and eat millet, a healthy grain. Then, it dawned on me - does a pasta exist made of millet? YES!
From Big Green Organic Foods (available also on Amazon) it is 100% millet, no other ingredients. It is delicious, doesn’t fall apart like other gluten-free pastas, and blends well with sauces or butter or pesto. Try it out!
So, when I don’t feel like cooking from scratch or want to have a meal that is partly steamed veggies with a side of “processed” food, one of the above is a great option!
