The Day My Dog Ran Away (A Poem)
Panting on the pavement
On a hot Brooklyn summer day
You looked so comfy, tail curled as you lay
We busied ourselves, hosing down the car
Suds everywhere, you are present yet far
What were you thinking, my sweet little pup?
That the dogs days are here, with Sirius above?
Then a sight to behold as one of yours neared
A knight in fur valiant, towards you it was geared
Were the stars so aligned, a canine couple so fated?
That master's orders became muted, as if not berated
As you ran down the street, like a mirage in reverse
My tears were of joy, because of Truth in this verse:
Love sets you free, and to Love is to free
One's self and one's other
And all of humanity
